How To Keep Pests Away From Your Plants

Keeping pests away from your plants can be a real hassle for any gardener.  Some folks aren’t too bothered about pests whilst there are others who want to wage an all out war on them.  There are so many different courses of action.  In the past there’s been all sorts of different chemicals which have caused many problems with the environment.  This is why people are looking for alternatives.

Nemetodes are really tiny little creatures that you put into the ground and the go around gobbling up all kinds of different nasties such as slugs, carrot root fly, sawfly, thrips and leatherjackets.  You can be them very easily if you search online or ask at your local garden center.

Bats are also a really great way to keep insect numbers down in your garden.  You can encourage bats to take up residency by installing bat boxes in your garden.  At night they will come out and eat a variety of pests including moths, mice and mosquitoes.  However it really depends on the species of bat.  A lot of people see bats as a form of pest but actually, they can help you get rid of pests!

Dragonflies are not only one of the most beautiful and graceful creatures, they really love to munch their way through lots and lots of insects.  In order to encourage them into your garden you should have some water in the form of a pond.

Similarly, ladybirds are another very popular insect and are very useful for getting rid of unwanted insects in your garden.  They can be purchased on the internet plus at some garden centers.  Both the ladybird adults and juveniles eat insects such as aphids.  In the winter you can have a ladybird house set up for them to hibernate.
